Remigio of Varagine

Hey Folks! Today I am glad to present to you my final university project!
I really love the film The of the Rose, so imagine my joy when I encountered such incredible concept versions of the characters of the film by Filipe Pagliuso:

I absolutely adored each one of them but y clicked speccially with Remigio of Varagine with such an marvelous design, so I decided that i wanted my final proyect to be about bringing to 3D that concept. Also recently rewatched Love Death and Robots and again fell in love witch Alberto Mielgo artstyle so i tried to incorporate loosely the painterly effect on the character's skin. I also wanted to use all the programs I learned during my Masters course, so the character utilized a lot of them witch I'm going to extend below

In the begining, I did the Sculpt in Zbrush, paying extra attention to plasming the weird permanent expression on his face. Then i did the retopo in Maya in order to get the poly count to 20k faces. Then i started creating the clothes in Marvelous Designer. On of my goals was to learn more abot the process of using the program, and the posibility to simulate cloth to fit a posed rig. I created the garments in my A-pose model, and when i finished, used Blender to quickly create a basic rig in order to create the pose. I exported the model as an alembic to marvelous in order for marvelous to be able to read the blendshape between the A-pose and the posed version. Then i simulated the cloth and obtained the final form.

Next for the Hair i wanted to use Xgen so i started making the descriptions for the different parts of the body hair and the fibers ot the clothes. When i was satisfied with the result, i converted it into interactive groom and then exported as alembic in order for Unreal to read it well. For the textures I used Substance Painter and used UDIMS to get more texture resolution. I tried to handpaint everything as possible in the skin to get the mentioned style before, but for the clothes i went for a more realistic approach. When i was done, monted all the pieces in Unreal, created a nice light set to show it and reflect the atmosphere of the character and rendered it!

I really hope you like this as much as I enjoyed doing it.
